These shoes
https://www.evanscycles.com/specialized-expert-road-shoe-EV221216

I could always feel my spd pedals through my commuter shoes or the fibre soled shimano ro87's I used on the turbo. I cannot feel the speedplays at all. It takes some getting used to in terms of clipping in- and out. And the specialised are a better fit- and hopefully will break in nicely- than any shoe I have had or tried on. I can wiggle my toes! My freakishly flat bunion feat are well supported and comfortable. I put my 87's on after trying the spec's and I could not believe how much I had gotten used to their cramped fit.

I've always fancied a pair of those myself. They look really smart. If you get any discomfort it may be worth noting specialized do a range of footbeds to suit different shaped feet. I changed from the red to the green ones.

Are you going to do one of the stage routes Bob? I was in Paris last week and the weather was lovely. But I was only over there for a day so it doesn't really count...

I should be there tomorrow night. Be my only ride in the July league due to hols and work commitments, so I better make it count! If you and @rob01792 want a domestic to help pace you up the hill then I'm happy to do that, then you can leave me for dead on the descent

@Whorty - thanks for the offer of a lift. but I think with the recent upgrades I'll be struggling to keep up with you . Hopefully I will make some in-roads on the way down.

Have a great holiday and take it easy in Sydney.

Chaingang Stage 1
Albox Almeria Andalucía Espania.
Tonight at 7pm with 10 mins warmup.
Don't forget to alter your weights to your correct weight if your last ride was Tuesday nights weight handicap.

I thought this would be a simple slog up a hill then downhill to the end, but apparently not .

All I will say is it's not quite as straightforward as it seems on paper! Not all the up is up and not all the down is down. Make sure your gears are in good working order as you'll be using the a lot, and those with the new updates prepare yourselves mentally for those sudden crashes in speed - I had quite a few of them! Enjoy!

Yes indeed! What I noticed this time was that you could go flying into a gradient and suddenly slow down as if hitting a thick strand of elastic The elastic then snapped after a second or so and you would fly forward again but at a much lower speed. And right enough the gears was difficult due to not knowing whether I'd be going fast or slow at any point after hitting a gradient.

At least half a dozen times I was struggling to get speed off 2mph for long periods. I tried going really hard, then slow into inclines. There was no ryhme or reason. I usually just had to keep going at a steady pace until the gradient changed, Bkool would then realise and adjust resistance and speed. So I got one “do you want to end session“ on the way up. Then in the way down @Goldwolfie caught me, I got off the bike, when I looked at The screen I had overtaken him and I wasnt even there ^_^

That couldn't have been much fun for you AAAC. Hanging around waiting half the time. I couldn't even keep up with you on the downhill. Probably totally flat rides will be best for future chaingang rides.

I've not seen a bike come past me with no jockey in real life. However, I've had a mate come running passed after he parted from his mountain bike on a steep downhill wooded descent.

I could see you were struggling a couple of times on the up hill section, as I nearly caught you a few times but you'd always pull away when it levelled off.

Bill - could you please approve my ride when you get the chance.
