I think some people on this forum have been to "Go Ape", not me yet.

It would not be suitable for girly types with long nails* to protect, but I am sure the more robust staff members might consider it.

* Refer to the OP, they can just sit on them, if they so wish.

we were going to have a company come in and do a proper "it's a knock day" with the big foam fancy dress outfits... until they did the risk assessment on it and decided it was too risky spoilsports... so that's how we ended up do school sports day instead as it was the next best thing.

or in our case, two of the senior managers having a hissy fit at each other (coz one was drunk and accused the other of being sexist) which was hysterically funny, especially when she sobered up the next day and realised it had brought out her worst side. luckily no hard feelings tho, probably because the rest of us were rolling about laughing so the parties involved had to see the funny side.

You could employ an outside company for £3k who might actually do some team building activities (as in; the team actually getting to know each other as human beings and not just job roles)
This as opposed to - team building tasks which are (not) great fun / a series of activities that half the people don't actually want to do / activities that neither bring people together as a team or see each other as a bunch of individuals - only united by pay packet.
Most of these second team building activities appease management / staff until a few days later when most teams would have been happier and brought more together by giving them the £3k
So in short it does not take £3K to do this just a bit of imagination and audacity to drop the traditional approach to team building, someone not connected to the team, who does not have your aims as the outcome just the end result of getting a team to function - this may also take many years and repetitions of the exercise but is worth it.

If they can afford to throw £3k away like this then they can afford to give you all a bit more money each week. Why not get together with everyone in the office and bond over that? You could organise a demonstration together and all sorts.

quite lidderally this morning we were told we're getting 2 DAYS!!!!!! away in January at a conference centre/hotel... it's a nice cycle to get there was my initial thought
I really think it's a waste of money... we could get more done in 2 hours over coffee and cakes in the canteen if we really wanted to.... however.... as I said, it's a nice cycle there and a nice cycle back!

Although you mention the nail breaking brigade, women tend to be just as competitive when these things get started.

The trick is to get the aplha female to agree with what you are trying to do.

Good luck, we did dragon boating and everyone loved it (despite a broken ankle by one member of staff (fell over approaching the lake)), we have also done the silly games thing which if professionally organised is also great fun.

Key thing is to out source it to the pros, rather than doing all the work yourself. You will have enough to do just finding the right lot of pros.
