So the bus gets stuck under the finish line banner and the accident occurs 6km away.

Not sure where to post this but seeing as I am always hanging about in the café thought I would start here.
Busgate is discussed in depth in the tour thread over in Pro Cycling.

I bet the driver's full time job is at coastliner buses Worthing depot..he was sent on an undercover mission to infiltrate and destroy as many cyclists as he could in order to make up his weekly target deficet;)

very strange all together and loads of questions like

did all the other teams buses go that way ?

where were the height restriction signs ?

why didnt they just let the tyres down ?

You're such a racist!!
Brains was being subtle, and you missed it ...

The Daily Mail is well-known for such nonsense, so Brains posted in that style to make a point about how crap that paper is!

Already being discussed in the main TdF thread, but to summarise:
  • The team management claim that their driver was misdirected by an official.
  • The gantry is normally raised to give extra clearance but is lowered just before the time of the finish. It had been lowered just before the coach drove under it.
  • They did eventually let the tyres down, but first they had to make sure that the gantry was secure and wouldn't come crashing down onto the road.
