Team Sky Muc Off Hydrophobic Lube

This post isn't aimed at sparking a debate about cheap vs expensive lube, it's just for those who are genuinely interested in this specific lube.

Pre-reged for the Velothon on Friday and they didn't have a jersey to fit that wasn't baggy on me, so decided to leave it and treat myself to the new Team Sky Hydrophobic Lube from the Muc Off stand.

Boys on the stand really knew their stuff and told me all about it without trying to push it on me, fair play.

Anyway, bought some and lived up my already cleaned and dried chain in readiness for Sunday.

The idea is that it's a mixture of wet and dry lube that gives you maximum efficiency but also lasts longer on Both wet and dry conditions. Said to last around 225 miles before you can hear that it needs relubing.

My drivetrain has never sounded so smooth or shifted as well as it did on Sunday. Conditions were dry throughout, so can't comment on the wet, but very pleased so far.

It is bright blue Sky colour too, which made me laugh. Can just imagine them stipulating that. Lol.

I'd be interested to try it, just to see if it justifies being 4 times the price. But I just can't imagine how it would. I use Finish Line dry lube and only mickle my chain every other ride (which are mostly in the dry) on my fancy bike, and about every week on my commuter (more if it's wet). I _never_ notice my chain.

I was the same prior to using this. Will be keeping for my best bike in fairness, as have a good stock of other wet and dry lubes already.

The chain is not black like when using wet lube and should last longer than dry lube when raining. I think that's a result for me.

Looking nice and clean after 95 miles yesterday. I hate a black drivetrain.

I don't think 95 dry miles is any kind of test for this, come back in a few months and let us know your thoughts then

That's a shame, because a black drivetrain is usually a sign that a) the chain has lubricant on it and b) the lubricant is doing its job. Just wipe it clean and re-lube as needed.

A lot of claims seem to be made for this lube, but I'm having trouble locating the evidence for them. Can anyone help?

I think this has been marketed at a certain type of rider, things like evidence don't matter to them

The reason it's blue is so you can use an unltra violet torch to check if every link of the chain has some on.

Clearly wrong!

I have the Ceramic Dry Lube too, which is green, and guess what? Yes it also comes with a mini UV torch for the same purpose. Actually works quite well if you want to know where you started without overlubing.

Muc Off has stated that it's 15.5% more efficient than their own Ceramic Wet Lube and 27% more than other brands tested. It's up to somebody impartial to test it and argue against it surely? Oh, I forgot, nobody else has a testing rig! Competitors included.

I can only go on my initial experience.

Actually works quite well if you want to know where you started without overlubing

I tend to start at the 'missing link' and lube until it comes round again, don't need no fancy torch for that
