I'm a Producer at October Films, a documentary production company. I'm looking into a documentary on the take-up of cycling in the UK, and part of that would look at the thriving trade in stolen bikes.
I've been reading some of the posts on this forum, and wanted to post a thread calling for a bit more info where people want to assist. I've had permission from the admin for this.
The premise is essentially that thieves and cyclists are going to more audacious means to both steal and secure bikes. With the amount people are wanting to spend rocketing, it's become a high-stakes game and people are taking recovery into their own hands.
I'm interested in hearing from people who've had their bike stolen or know of a theft incident where the thieves used particularly aggressive tactics. Perhaps someone has repeatedly been the target of bike theft. If anyone has a tale of recovery, I'd also like to hear that.

I was reading about a film called God's Children, where bike bait was left out by bike vigilantes in Arizona - when the thieves emerged, the angry cyclists would accost them. Has anyone heard of anything similar happening in the UK?
