I've noticed Tesco gradually sliding towards oblivion since I started my boycott some 8 years ago due to their failure to respond to my letters regarding their duff cycle stands at a new store.

I have tried and succeeded to a certain degree, but they were no match for the real McCoy, which are sold by a locally famous chain in Jamaica. I was hoping to find them a little closer to home. They are not burgers, more like a pasty but with thinner pastry, and a very spicy filling of beef or chicken. I have found them for sale in Brixton, but again a bit far to travel!

Our local supermarket is Morrisons. It is simply the pits. Fruit and veg not fit for pigs, overpriced as you say, and lacking customer service. Individual staff are fine, just not nearly enough of them to cope with what is a very busy shop. It's enough to get me into the car and drive to, ironically, Tesco - 10 miles away.
They've ALL been through a refit recently. Fitted out so that there's loads of exotic fruit and veg, covered by a rolling watery vapour, just as you walk in.
Aisles now narrower and the old problems are still there. Buy 'A'&'B' together for a big discount, say pasta and sauce, nachos and dips etc. Shelves full of 'B', no 'A'

Which reminds me - special offers e.g. "Buy 1 get 1 free, Duracell batteries" and on the shelf is a display of, say, size AA Duracell batteries. Take them to the till, pay for them amongst other items, then check receipt and find you were charged full price. Complain to customer services who then take you to the display, and there in very small print beneath the big "Buy 1 get 1 free" letters, it says "offer applies to size AAA batteries only", but there are none of them on display

I have been caught out by this twice now, once on the batteries, and once on cooking oil - again because I picked up the wrong size of bottle, not noticing the small print (this offer applies only to our non existent 843ml size, not the 1 litre bottle which you are holding - you mug!).Obviously designed to go unnoticed when we buy them amongst a load of other stuff.
ditto - shelf full of one brand semolina, tapioca, rice pudding, normal, low fat etc. I spot rice pudding with raisins and nutmeg. Sign says £0.94 each, 2 for £1.50. So i grab 1 semolina, 1 tapioca, 2 of the rice pudding.
I get to the till
Assistant goes back to the shelf, when it doesn't scan properly. Apparantly this ones the only one on the shelf at £0.95, so doesn't come under the deal. I checked next week. the £0.95 was under the offer sign!

You are more likely to find them in supermarkets that are close to a significant West Indian population.
I know of an Asda and a Tesco that sell goat meat along with peanut milk, plantain crisps salt fish and the like.
I target the Wray and Nephew overproof rum.....

all the tescos by us do all of this, and not in the horrendous "world foods" section just on normal shelves for normal people . I find the Londis cheaper for the wray and nephew overproof tho
only a quid cheaper but better the small local retailer than the corporate giant.we try and use the small greengrocer by us as the produce is just far better. same for meat - its worth not buying meat from tesco and saving for some quality farm meat . we bought a huge leg of lamb and got 15 good meals out of eat thats 3 meals for 5 people. The kids won't eat tesco lamb , but wolfed this one down
