It was certainly hard going this morning - nearly came off a few times. Headwinds and crosswinds all the way in. How do I know that's not going to translate into tailwinds on the way home? Glad I made the effort in the end.

Hope everyone that did come off isn't too badly hurt - be safe on the way home...

a slow trudge in today into a firm headwind with intermittent drizzle and rain with the odd gusty sidewind, in the very odd lull in the wind in shelter the bike leapt forward alarmingly

but I suspect it'd be a slow trudge in regardless after the volume of beer I've drunk over the break so not all bad

The persistent rain has gone the wind has eased, compared to this morning, and it is about four degrees colder than it was this morning when I left.
Hopefully what's left of the strong wind will be behind me most of the way.

I have a thread in the Café called The Parties Over, in it I posted about my ride in this morning saying ....

Worst conditions I've ridden in for many years, wind tail to side and violently shaking the handlebars at times, did well to stay on the road a couple of times, not bothering to rain, just wet from the ground up, like riding under water. I was wearing waterproofs, cycle jacket and a polo shirt, the rain got through the waterproof jacket and started to soak the cycle jacket, but didn't get through the over trousers or overshoes. Dry tonight with a vicious wind blowing head to side, took me half an hour to do six and a half miles.

I just bottled it and am resorting to the bus. The shame! Stay safe.
I've bottled it and gone out to look at cars today, got a test drive tomorrow - I went out on the bike once last week and had to get off and push half the time. I'm fine with rain and cold, prepared to struggle with hills, fog and a breeze but I'm petrified in wind.

My contract renewal hadn't been sorted, so I stayed snug (and unpaid) in the house today. Can't say I regretted it. I always remember a colleague (and friend) who was walking to work in 80mph gusts - a day I had decided to leave the bike at home - and a real estate metal sign was caught in a gust and she was literally scalped by it: it hit her in the back of the head and sliced her scalp, creating a flap and flipping her skin and hair over her eyes, so she had to flip it back on to the top of her head and spend a day in hospital being cleaned up and sewing her hair back on. Dozens of stitches including some from amaxillofacial surgeon.

Always imagine how much worse that would be if she'd been cycling with traffic, and find a way to get through my day without a bike on days like today
