people that can't use the roads should stay off them, there seems to be a school of thought that junctions and indeed the entire road system should somehow be made save for rider with no understanding or intent to understand how to do that

stick to a route you can cope with init
Let's start with removing the privileges of the drivers to whom that applies, eh?

ah but they can because they're in a nice big cars, people have shunts and scrapes and worse all the time and no-one gets hurt

anyone that gets themselves on the inside of a long vehicle turning left ...

cycle routes and cycle lanes and now this reinforce the idea that bikes do not belong on the road or aren't capable, i have one of these two stage lights on my route home and it's ridiculous to wait there like a second class vehicle, until all the important vehicles have gone, and then trundle across while everyone waits and watches

all it needs is a man walking in front waving a flag

We use this in Denmark and it works fine. It will never work in the UK as many cyclists don't want change, unless it is on their terms.

They are all like that in Copenhagen and work very well. Can't see an issue to be honest.

They're not a patch on the Dutch "simultaneous green" junction treatment though - they're a compromise.
