make sure you cover all eventualities regards your house, many people spend their working lives paying for their own home only to have "the powers that be" take their home to cover care home costs, 25+ years grafting just to have your home snatched away, hardly fair is it.

Getting rid of the mortgage is a wonderful thing. I was fortunate enough to pay mine off 4 years early a couple of years back. Not only is not seeing the money disappear from your bank account each month a great thing, but knowing that you have a roof over your head for the rest of your life, even if things go wrong or your health fails is a great comfort. Enjoy the day when it happens, it's like someone removing rocks from your pockets.

I had two mortgages, it was lovely when we paid off the second one, suddenly we could afford to go on holiday more often and ditch some of the old stuff that we'ed kept going because we couldn't afford to replace it. We brought our first two houses in an area of the city where house prices were very strong so eventually the price we could get for our house was enough to buy a house in another part of the City and have enough left over to pay off the mortgage as well.

Unfortunately my house is in a dire need of "modernisation" so I expect I shall spend the next 25 years saving up for double glazing, central heating (although I'm not too arsed about this; nowt wrong with a coal fire and wearing 5 jumpers & 10 pairs of socks in winter), rewiring, replastering, new kitchen, new roof etc, etc.

My mortag finishes 1 month after im 65, i had to start from scratch after the banks went phoom and work put us on short time for nearly 2 years .

You're gonna need to take out a mortgage to get all that done :O
