I wasn't putting much effort in on the way home, then a tractor over took me, not going that fast. The people carrier behind got in front of me and I managed to slip stream them for the next couple of miles! Made it nice and easy.

Shame the blooming tractor turned off the main road, allowing the people carrier to speed up!

Anyway, went a different way to work today. A little further but it is quite nice. Didn't have any real problems today which is also nice.

Ha.....some of them are quite quick. Me and a mate slipstreamed one back home after a training ride - nice steady and easy 30 mph.

Only problem, it was pulling a trailer full of manure.......god did I stink when I got home............;)

haha...the tractor was going a bit slow for my liking when I was drafting it. I was having to actually use my brakes

Funny how a slight change of route makes all the difference. Variety is the spice of life, I guess.

I thought it would be worst tbh. I've never been along the main stretch of road in rush hour. The first 5 miles is the same as when the office was elsewhere so I'm used to that bit. It's not too bad, but do need to be careful of tipper trucks!!!

The road was actually pretty quiet, I expected the same sort of volume of traffic as the other route.

It's ok, its not your fault your faster than fossy thomas!

:biggrin:...my tractor can't have been doing much more than 20mph ;). I was probably too close to the car in front, but had plenty of escape routes

I often overtake tractors. Good fun.
I once had a tractor overtake me just as i got onto Longdale Lane from the roundabout on the A614.
Sat behind it doing 22mph all the way.
That road normally kills me aswell! No idea why:wacko:

I overtook a tractor on my singlespeed DMR transition yesterday  It was downhill and the tractor was towing so i expect it was going quite slow, but i still enjoyed the fact that I was not the slowest person on the road

I ride fixed, whats your point with the one gear thing?
Im faster on fixed then gears, and can go faster then people on gears.
Having one gear is no problem, much better i find.

Should go fixed though, singlespeed isnt as good.

Oh, and a tractor going downhill with a trailor would go at a decent speed, or atleast could do, due to him being heavy.

I got sort of stuck behind a tractor on my way home the other day. It was near the end of my ride and there was a hill coming up that's always a bit of a pain so just thought i would sit behind it for a bit. He wasn't going to slow and it was so nice to have people in cars wait behind me and then give loads of room so they could get past me and the tractor.

One problem with tractors can be the huge clods of earth that fly off their treads - best not to follow too close

My favourite serendipitous traffic moment was being followed down one of the roads on my commute by a Police car. It wasn't wide enough to overtake safely, so the driver very considerately waited for a safe gap to pass. The following traffic didn't blat past the police car as they might with other cars, so the whole thing was really very pleasant - I imagine it to be a bit like having a team car behind you.

Did Bordeaux to Barcalona a few years ago. When we got to Barcalona, we had to meet at this place, no later than 3oclock (or something like that). That was because there was a group of 60 of us, and we got a police escort around town to our hotel - so that we caused minimal distruption to the traffic. The police motorbikes stopping the side junctions and occassionally letting us all go through red lights, so we got to race around Barcalona
