Hi to all

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone that posts on this forum. Been cycling at weekends over the summer and eventually got around to doing my first 9.5 mile commute to work this morning.

The tips and advice given on this forum gave me the confidence and knowledge to simply give it a go and I found it a pleasurable and rewarding experience. (Especially the tips regarding having no showers at work!)

I hope I feel this godd once I get home also!

Thanks again.

Hi leighd - reading this forum is also what got me started on my 18 mile commute and knowing what to look out for made the journey much less stressful.

It will get better and better as you go through experiences and I found that when something dodgy happens you almost smile at the "initiation ceremony" of it all.

Good luck and long may it continue.

Well done !!

9.5 miles is just about the perfect commute distance, i'd love that.

You'll feel a great sense of acheivement when you get home, you'll be looking forward to Monday morning.

Monday is my drive in day - I have something on after work until 10pm so it is convenient to take everything in for the week rather than cart it in each day. However - Tuesday is another day.

Took me 55 minutes of cycling today - but did take a wrong turn and route wasn't the best as had to stop so many times for traffic lights. But we all learn by mistakes and past experiences. (Secretly would love to gewt to the 45 minute mark though!)

This forum has been so helpful with my commute too. Well done everyone !!

Still doesn't stop me missing turnings and making a 16 mile commute into a 19.5m one this am. Doh !!!

But it was a beautiful morning - coming over the Forth Road bridge the sun was shining and best of all no p*nctures at all. Woo and Yay.

Hi Leighd.

Without a doubt, this forum was the spark that got me from "thinking" about it, to actually giving it a go.

My advice, 9.5 is a perfect distance, pace yourself and take the time to enjoy the ride (dont stress about the time or MPH)

Soon enough you will start to put pressure on yourself to "try harder" (which is no bad thing) but I personally suggest you keep in focus the whole "journey" aspect of the ride... both in terms of the miles and the change that it will bring you personally.

Wow, I sound so ZEN!

Yes it must be nice to be able to cycle to work. Unfortunately my journey is 25 miles each way which for me is a bit too far to consider.

I knew somebody would come back with something like that. I admire you guys I really do but a 50 mile round trip with a days work in between is really not my idea of fun.
