To the cyclist who warned me this morning that a group of teenagers tried to relieve him of his bike yesterday on the A5 in NW London, between Staples Corner and the bus garage.

Thought I'd post to warn anyone else who cycles that route to be extra vigilant.

He had a nice Condor btw and was setting a nice pace across the Staples Corner flyover (north to south)... for those who know it.

I know it well. I used to commute Marble Arch to Eastcote and would often go that way (not the most pleasant ride but certainly the most straight forward). Sadly, it doesn't surprise me that there are oiks around that part of NW London. Thanks for posting the warning.

Acquaintance of mine had a similar experience with a thieving idiot, a few years ago. He finished up with the chainring on the idiot's side of the bike. The chain was on the small ring.

He placed his chain-side foot at 3 o'clock adjacent to the chain stay, lifted the bike about 12" and scraped the chainring down the afformentioned idiot's shin.

Cue loud screams and lamentations by idiot, followed by hasty departure of acquaintance.

haha, good for him. Thing is, so many of these little shoots are packing something you have to decide in a split second if its going to worth getting stabbed or not.

I used to do Mill Hill to Covent Garden and it was a nasty route for left-hookers - 28 - 30 years ago now...
Did you live in Eastcote yello - or work there? My Mum still lives there (I used to), just off Southbourne Gardens...it is a bit of a cafe, estate agent, building society sprawl now...

I worked in Eastcote a few years back.... looking back, I have no idea what possessed me to make the decision. I thought it would be a good job, one to re-invigorate me. How wrong I was; I lasted less than a year.
