I like the European stations too, and certainly for music radio, the Dutch(and French for that matter) seem to do it so much better than Britain with our soul destroying Heart, Star, Absollute, Smooth Radio and the like. The good folks who founded Radio Caroline must often wonder why the hell they ever bothered!
It's amazing how far those long wave signals will travel. Although the Europe 1 stick on 183khz is in German territory, it's so close to the French border it's shadow often straddles both countries.
Sadly France Inter on 162khz is scheduled to close down for good on 31st December this year, so make the most of it. Also, I keep hearing rumours that the Irish plan to close RTE Radio 1 on 252khz soon too. At least it will mean we'll be able to hear the French language Algerian station on the same channel much more clearly. The Algerians recently overhauled their transmitter and it absolutely batters RTE here at night (and during daylight in winter).
For anyone still awake, another French language long wave station, RMC (Radio Monte Carlo) can often be heard on 216khz.[/QUOTE
Thank you for the info about France Inter closing down on long wave. I wasn't aware of that.
