that sinking feeling

hi folks, not been on for a while but thought I'd share this one...
out for a ride and ended up on a path that was in the middle of being resurfaced. Halfway through a very slow right turn had that sinking feeling; the rear wheel had 'caught' in a really soft bit and collapsed! Ever resourceful I whipped the wheel off and with the help of a handy wall managed to straighten it (sort of) and then found my spoke key wasn't so handy being 6 miles away in the garage. So, leaving the back brakes off I decided to ride slowly home, a bit wobbly but seemed ok. 1 mile to go, that sinking feeling again this time accompanied by a bit of a bang! Yep, the wheel had wobbled sufficiently to catch the derailleur and drag it into the spokes knackering a bunch of them. Fortunately more spokes weren't damaged as the derailleur failsafe kicked in allowing it to safely snap in two! Yep, a plastic mech! I'd always assumed it was metal in a plastic casing. Time to go shopping but I guess that'll be another thread.
