On my return from Rufforth yesterday,i failed to get to York.I was overtaken by a beautiful open topped Triumph sports car.Glorious blood red and very shiny chrome.A non threatning throaty roar as he passed me,even a wave for moving over for him.Well down the road i heard a pop-band-explosion,then i saw the hood rise up in the air tumbling from the sky.onto, luckily an empty road.I got to the hood first, while at the same time, waving my arm to warn other motorists. The car had now left the road, and was resting upright in a small ditch and left headlight in a hedge. The windscreen was smashed. The driver was ok,but very very angry with himself. He said he was in a hurry, and may have not fastened down the engine hood correctly,oh dear what a costly mistake. On a brighter note ,he was not hurt,i was the nearest to the flying hood,i was safe and no other cars were involved.

So sad when a classic car gets bashed, but I'd rather they were used than static in a garage or museum.
My dad had a lovely Alfa Romeo, it was immaculate - it got wrapped round a lamp post when a motorbike jumped a red light. That was the end of that car.

Don't triumph bonnets open from the windscreen end?

Triumphs are consistent if nothing else; we had a Dolomite, the engine blew up in France, a 2500 estate, the front wheel fell off, a Spitfire, my dad overturned it into a ditch, that was is fault though and a Herald, the bottom fell out of as it had rusted to buggery although that only cost £100 and a Panasonic Way. Halcyon days...

They do indeed, so perhaps it wasn't a Triumph ?

pedant alert - heralds/vitesse/spitfires/gt6 open from the front - which can be amusing if you brake hard and the clips have undone themselves - but most other triumphs open the normal way.

Had a Dolly Sprint. Served us well for many a year but then the propshaft went & it started getting expensive.
