just on my way back from millie's house to my flat, coasting round a roundabout dropping in behind two young people (i'm 25 and they were a bit younger than me) riding mountain bikes with no lights (the police van going the other way hadn't bothered) the speed i'm going allows me to drift past so i hold a line that will take me past,

one of them, while telling me my bike is sh!t starts veering into me putting me into secondary position had i been traveling in the opposite direction.

only one thing to do really isn't there - boot it

they tried to keep up but gave up with a "bloody hell"
(i can happily sprint upto 27-30mph, and this was a slight downhill)

possibly should have kept going instead of turning into a road end and stopping, but i wanted to get home

think i'll have any problems from them again or do you think they'll have forgotten me by tomorrow night?

A few years ago a kid on a Halfords yelled 'Race you" as I pulled out onto the hill outside work. I'll be honest, I nearly had a heart attack, but I bloomin well made sure I thrashed him to the top of the the hill! Very silly but has to be done doesn't it? ;0)

There's a certain mentality about the folk who suggest these sort of challenges that makes you want to win at all costs. Thankfully they usually don't really want to put in the effort. (otherwise i'd never beat them);)

he wasn't really challenging me anything more than he was possibly trying to knock me off or worse try and mug me

ah well, if he is there tomorrow night i'm heading for the ring road, see how fast and daft he is.

Had two separate groups of kids asking for my bike, as if I'm going to swap my challenge trike for a £30 mountain bike. ;)

Got 3 scalps last night. All trackied up with BB Caps on full sus MTBs ;)

What is it with them? They see me coming from behind and they all predictably got up on the pedals to 'sprint away' but got nowhere. I passed with relative ease. I was watching as I got closer and their heads and bodies were swaying side to side, where I was just grinding with my legs alone, so I knew I could have them. That was on my MTB hybrid old clanker. Would love to have met them on the 'quick' bike.

the ones that just want a bit of a race don't bother me

it was the deliberate turning into me that I didn't like

had i been on the mountain bike things would have been very different - i can trackstand and side hop, front wheel pivot and have much better balance.

however its top speed is very limited due to being 32/16 t

You was right in what you did make them look stupid, I had it last night I was at a T junction turning right at the end of my ride and I always use the last 3 miles and ride as hard as i can till I am home to get rid of any energy I have left. As I am waiting a guy and a women go past on moutain bikes straight away get out of the saddle and speed up then keep looking behind me, anyway I waited untill the uphill part of the road and flew past them and jsut said thanks and keep going lol

The estate I live on is a bit dodgy, the kids think they can just take what they want. I went to great lenths on Sautrday trying to get one lad to understand he just couldn't take another kids bike without asking. Fair enough, the other kid should have just left the bike unsupervised.. hey ho.

I always make sure when I'm cyclnig through the estate I have a rserve of speed and I'm ready to cycle away from danger. I also always have the next escape route in the back of my mind.

It's sad having to go to such a length, however on more than one occasion I have had similar to you.

In fact I had a guest staying with me once, and cycling home they tried to box us in.

I dare say the probably won't cause you a problem again, but in any case keep your wits about you.

I hate groups of kids, although they can be pretty fast, it was not even a headwind and a load of yobs seen me from behind, so they started speeding up on there bmx's and crappy MTB's, I had to do about 30mph to overtake them and sustain about 24mph for them to not catch me up, about 200meters down the road they fell back.

One guy on a MTB tried to race me, it was ok he was a decent person, in Manchester near trafford on this stretch I was cruising along at 20ish and in the distance this guy on a MTB, I started speeding up as I like to overtake people as a challenge sometime, well I had to do 32mph on a slight gradient to overtake him, he must have being doing 26-28mph on a MTB, I was totally dead after that, thank god there was a traffic jam and he was turning off!

Hee hee this is like a street car racing forum.

I regret to say my Subaru Impreza driving niece has been on several television programmes and has several You Tube exerpts because of her street racing hobby.
