Many of you who commute tend to do so on a daily basis and I applaud you.

However, I noted a few comments a while back about the days getting harder, not easier and that a general sense of tiredness follows.

I just wanted to say that, in my opinion, a three day break from all cycling is a wonderful way to re-energise. Sounds like common sense but for me its the time period...three days. Any less doesn't feel like a rest, any more and I loose fitness.

After a three day break I return to riding and find my first ride to be really easy, with a lot of energy left over and a real sense of fresh legs. By the end of that week, I am feeling a little tired of it.

I know its tricky if cycling is your only way of getting into work but perhaps a Friday or a Monday off, will do wonders to help.

Just a thought.

One day of rest is all I really need, if that. I usually take the Saturday off of cycling. Sunday is usually one of my long(er) cycle rides, then I'm back on to the commute on a Monday.
Though, if I haven't been out of the weekend for whatever reason, it is quite noticeable that I haven't on the Monday morning ride. Legs are definitely a little fresher.
I certainly don't get a general sense of tiredness. And don't really get that Friday tired leg feeling. Even with the longer then I think average distance and speed of my commute. It's something that I've spent years building up and conditioning my body to cope with.

After two days rest the endorphins cold turkey gets so bad that my wife throws me over her shoulder, dumps me on the bike saddle, and pokes me with a sharp stick until I head off down the road on it.

I get "Why aren't you going out? What's Up? Why Not? What you going to be doing instead? Are you going to be hanging around home getting under our feet then?"

Charming

Eh? Rest from commuting? What if you have to go to work and have no car?
I can do stints of 14 days without day off, still cycle to work no probs, got a very active job too.
Ok mine is only 5 miles each way, maybe yours is lots more, 10/20 miles?
In my case it would be more tiring getting the 2 buses required, plus waiting times, delays, freezing to death at the bus stop...

It's good for your body to recover after bouts of intense exercise to allow muscles repair however I don't think most commuter rides count as intense exercise.

I only commute 2-3 days per week due to other commitments I have when I need to be back home early but I only have a 30 mile round trip so not really anything that needs recuperation.
