The age gap.

A few things have got me thinking recently. There's over 20 years between Moon Bunny and me, the twins are younger than some of my school friends' grandchildren! Not that I am bothered personally, nor is the rabbit, but the looks we get off some people who seem to assume we're father and daughter well! Is it possible for the big an age gap between man and wife to be too big?

My mrs is 9 yrs older, i wanted kids But without the hassle later in life....and my step kids treat me as Dad..and i look at them as mine..
I ran away from every relationship that got round to marrage and babies as a 20 something..a lot of times too..
Got to say most of the larger age gap relationship people i know of have failed im affraid, but not all.
now im 50 and the wife is pushing 60 i feel im still young.....so ill let you know..or rather see what She decides lol

Isn't the formula supposed to be half the age of the older partner plus 7 years = lower age limit of the younger partner?

It changes with age, and perception

An age gap is less "accepted" when young, becomes unimportant in middle age and then becomes an issue again when older

Says more about the perception of the individual than anything else

There are "obvious" cases where a young person suddenly becomes infatuated with a rich old partner on their last legs, occasional "abusive" relationships where there is a deliberate intention to gain financially from the partner and then leave, or gain marital status for immigration reasons

Therein lies the problem, it is these that get headlines, and the perception is then that ANY such age gap must be dodgy

Personally if a couple are happy, fills each other's needs and have a secure relationship then age is irrelevant

When my parents married my father was 42 and my mother 21. He had three children from a previous marriage, the oldest being 15. Apparently the concensus was that it was doomed. They celibrated their 35th wedding anniversary a few months before my father died.

That was the thing, when my little brother and I were 8 and 6 my dad was 50 - and 50 in the 1970s was a bit different to 50 now (like wot I is). There was no football in the park and dad games because he had already had his first heart attack.

i am fourteen and a bit years older than my wife, we met when she was twenty five and i was just turning forty. We are now fast approaching our eighteenth year together. Age is just a number.
