My Dawes Aristocrat (inherited from my Father-in-law) is an indeterminate age bit greater than 20 as that is how long I have known my wife and he already owned it then for a while.

Trek 7.5 FX 4 months old

Specilized Stumpjumper FSR Comp 16 months

Trek 4900 8 years (and scrapped last month after buggering the frame up)

my road bike was built in 1968 and re-built (dragged from a shed where it had been for 20 years, got cleaned up, stripped, rust attended to, painted and put back together) in 2007

my mountain bike's frame is 2 years old, the forks are 5 years old, the wheels are 4 years old, the brakes are 2 years old - its a composite of parts :becool:

My MTB (converted to hybrid spec) is 13 years old.
My Carlton SS is 32 years old.
My Raleigh 20 is 38 year old and fully refurbished.
My Rudge roadster is about 55 year old (and awaiting refurb).
Recently, I briefly had a 1970s Raleigh 3 speed lady's sports but I sold it again and I binned the 1970s Dawes Kingpin I had because I found a crack in the frame. I think I need another bike but am undecided just what I want yet.

Brompton L6 - about six-seven years old
Peugeot MTB - twenty years old
Dahon Cadenza (folder) - eight months old

The good thing about having older bikes is they will need to be replaced eventually.

Does age matter? You say you find your Merida 'a joy to ride'. Sounds good to me. Stick with it and get a new kitchen.

Oh, 20 years, give or take.

I bought a Ridgeback hybrid as a birthday treat in November, my first new bike since 1993. It's like a Rolls Royce compared to my old Raleigh mountain bike (free from a bloke in the pub after I bent the forks on my old bike in a head on collision with another cyclist). It's much lighter than my old bike - and nothing rattles.
