Couldn't agree more. And what on earth has that guy done to his eyebrows?

they were probably all the rage like that when he became one of the undead 300 years ago. He immediately reminded me of the Alexander Armstrong old fashioned vampire character from their BBC shows.

Programmes like this are enormously damaging; by portraying business people as arrogant imbeciles and business as back-stabbing and shallow they will put generations of younger people off the idea of going into a career in business. What they don't show is the enjoyment of working in a good business with experienced grown-up colleagues and good reliable customers and suppliers, making an honest living that creates employment and wealth from the bottom up.

Example: my niece left school with average exam results but didn't fancy a "conventional" job so went on to do a degree in photography at a local college. Quite soon she realised she had no real talent and somehow drifted into a job with a major financial services company, which she is absolutely loving. She finds life insurance and investment really fascinating and against all her expectations she is getting on really well in her first proper job.

I don't have a TV, but I must confess that I find it hugely enjoyable. It confirms all my most dearly held prejudices and consists almost entirely of complete w**kers making idiots of themselves. What's not to like?

Bit like Masterchef then, which has thankfully just finished.

That for those of us, actually in "business", it sets us back to an aggresive, self aggrandising, posturing, ego centric, "lunch is for wimps", early 1980's style of working with each other. Which, at the moment at least, doesn’t actually happen that way, but just might do, if Little Lord Fauntleroy and his army of sycophants start changing perceptions.

Ban it, and ban it now. (And murder Lord Sugar).

Could you come and be a manager where I work please!!!!!!!!!

I concur, I used to work for an law firm in IT, I have never felt or been treated like a pleb in my career until I started there. Thank god I got out.

Are we to conclude that John Arlott was an Amazingstoker??

He was a proper one too! Born there, went to Fairfields primary (which nowadays feeds into the same comp that I went to) and then to QM Grammar (which turned into the Vyne comp, alma mater of Monty Don (edit: and Walesman extraordinaire, Kit Symons)).

You've obviously never worked for a decent company then.

Why on earth do you think people complain so much about selection in graduate schemes (although this is changing and they weren't ever all like that), internships and competency tests/team activities in multi-stage interviews?

The apprentice tends to have a lot of people who are sales managers in some form or other. I've heard people who work in sales and call centres complain about the odd younger manager having the sorts of behaviours you see on the show.

It is only a TV show, of course - I don't expect it to be real, or the contestants to be representative. Maybe that's why I don't watch it.

Last year I went to an Asian restaurant in Bradford which had featured in one of Gordon Ramsey's series. The proprietor said that when the cameras stopped rolling he 'came off stage' and was unassuming, helpful and a pleasure to work with. TBH, my experience of work over 40 years is that being arrogant/aggressive/manipulative/untrustworthy (as the Apprentice contenders appear to be) isn't a successful strategy in any environment.
