The truck may well have to go.

Do I go even wackier and get a Hummer or a Pinzgauer, or more sensible and a Mondeo and some slippers?

I'm off to look at a few undisclosed vehicles today. Feel free to have a sweepstakes over which side of my character prevails.

I reckon the VW Amarok has a good look to it and the Nissan Navara has some decent lines too, looks quite mean. I've a mate with the Amarok as a company car (works for one of the mobile phone companies doing work on the cells) but I've got a vague recollection that it's had a bunch of back to dealer issues and it's less than a year old. Don't know if it was a Friday afternoon one. Also, pretty new so less likely to find second hand I guess and not so tested. Many more Navaras but the silver one in that link looks awful, nicer in black. Not a fan of the new L200 shape and never have been, plus with most/all of them the bed length has been drastically reduced. I presume this is to give better room in the cab, but it's one reason (a long way behind cost) that we've still got the 15 year old L200 as it had the biggest bed of the bunch when we bought it and with the tailgate down it'll take a 90's Triumph Tiger on the back. You'd not get one diagonal in the new L200 and I'm pretty sure the others would have similar problems.

Depends what you need it to do I guess. You could always buy a Pious instead.

Anyway, you know you really want a Transit (secretly everyone really wants a Transit...) SWB Low top, almost practical as an every day vehicle.

I reckon something like this...

You know what they say about men with big cars - buy a Fiat 500 and impress the ladies

alas, I'm a bit big for one of those. I wouldn't so much get inside it as wear it.

Well, one car being sold locally caught my eye. I've been sensiblish and bought a Kia Spurt Age XS.

Oh, heavens no. I couldn't bee seen in a posh motor like that.

.

Already have one!

I need a decent size interior to accept my mighty frame. A decent boot for the labrador. 4wd is highly desirabale for SAR work so I can be mobile in all weathers and manage moderate off road work if needed. The L200 bigfoot was fine, but probably a teensy bit excessive. It's suffering gearbox problems and I've just about had enough of playing constantly with the spanners.

Synchromesh on first? That's what ours had. Didn't get worse for 2-3 years, then we had a crank issue and swapped the gearbox when we did the engine.

Friend has a Sportage, is getting on with it really well. Should be a good choice, better turning circle anyway.

Quick T-cut and polish and it'll clean up like new:okay:
Anything I bought as a teenager/young 20 something my dad's response would be 'lick of paint, be a nice motor that'. It was never the truth.
