Not a bad day for England, and they ended for bad light just as Aus were starting to get away. If we can keep them to a lead of 50 or so we're right back in the game.

221 runs in arrears!

That's ominous, to say the least.

On previous tours, when (and it happens far too regularly) England lose the 1st Test at Brisbane, they go on to lose the tour heavily.

We have a fragile middle-order with no-one who can regulalry be relied upon to score runs AND occupy the crease for a long time!

If Australia win, and I fear they will, then I don't think England have the depth of character to bounce back (but I'll be delighted to be proved wrong). Australia can smell blood, vicitrory for this Test, and consequently the series/Ashes!

Time to stand up and be counted, boys!

I watched the first hour and Hussey was plumb LBW but we had no more referrals. On such small things Tests are decided.

Don't worry - England can't possibly follow-on this time around.
They would have done - if the toss had gone the other way. Might as well call it a 'follow-on': the outcome's the same.

We have a couple of set phrases, in our household, on these occasions. When a Test is going - pretty much like this one - I will often remark "all four trotters firmly planted on the ground". When - miracle upon miracle - England are swinging it their way, one of us will gaze up at the sky and utter "Oink oink!" noises. I think you get my drift ... and my cynicism! Convey me to the Tower if you must!

Yep, looking decidedly healthier this morning. A real pleasure to see first thing, when I was expecting to wake up to an innings defeat!

You do realise I've gone and put the kybosh on it now don't you? A batting collapse is inevitable now...

+1!

Woke in the middle of te night and saw they were doing OK, but couldn't believe it when I read Cricinfo just now!

England will have to bat at least two sessions tomorrow, but hopefully, that is now well within their capabilities.

Great batting and application from Strauss, Cook and Trott!

Looks like a draw is likely now, fantastic effort by the England team, would have taken that a few days ago!
