Australia has/had many top world class sportsmen and women in just about every sporting discipline but Ian Chappell was not one of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't figure out how we got somehow shunted into a parallel reality in which Australians can't bat, can't bowl, can't field, can't captain, whine about sledging, apologise for not walking, and are basically crap, while England are brilliant. There's talk about Shane Warne coming out of retirement, maybe they'll have to dig up Bradman next.

I think you guys will just have to get used to the fact that you can beat the Aussies at cricket.

The Aussie Cricket team needs a major shake up, I don't know whether the problem is the attitude of the players or that the selectors are blind halfwits, maybe a bit of both.

I lost interest a few years ago..

Hello Ozrider! Above all - it's only a game given artificial status by the historical connection. If it can't be played with skill, dignity and humour then all is lost (and there's Aussie Rules for that sort of stuff  )
My theory is that Shane Warne has 'scooped the pot' and distracted the Aus. by showing off his latest squeeze, proving that you don't need snarling, moustachioed, Adonis-like physiques to 'pull the birds'...just the odd Lamborghini or two...(I just knew there was something I was missing...) )

Nine down under.

Hey Ozrider, don't give up when we're winning. We had to suffer all through the barren years so I don't see why you shouldn't!

The Aussie selectors are making the same mistakes that the English used to by changing the team too much and not identifying and sticking with whoever they think has talent.
Philip Hughes for example, Nathan Hauritz and many more. Their confidence is dented when they know that one failure means you're dropped.

Tremlett's performance must have really shaken the Aussies - evaporating all the hope that attended Broad's departure. At one point you just wanted to look (or listen) the other way. 69-5. It was like the time when you first realised that your Dad was really crap at football.

So I'm grateful that Haddin has made a game of it. Almost. And a little sad that, by the end of play tomorrow we might be thinking that it's all over. If Cook and the others get set in I think the chickens will be forming an orderly queue.....

A very professional first day's bowling performance (and what a catch by Collingwood!) by the men in white.

Shouldn't be beyond England to post a score of 400+, but I should know better than saying things like that!

If the batsmen can get a start and build on it we'll win this Test (and retain The Ashes), but it ain't over yet! And I feel Mitch Johnson could be a danger man.

I've got the next 3 days off everyone if you're interested- and I know you all are.

I plan to stay up as late as possible tonight and watch us (win or retain) the Ashes. I reckon by lunchtime in Perth it will be clear.

Either we collapse and they suddenly become the world's most potent bowling attack (which seems unlikely) or we will cruise to a position where we are unlikely to lose / likely to win / maybe draw.

All disasterous for the loveable Aussies. I fear this may be Ponting's last match - although a relpacement captain is hard to see. Mike Hussey?? Paul Hogan?? Edna Everidge?? Michael Clarke is clearly not up to it.

Interesting times....
