The assumption that if I'm 6'4'' my waist must be 40+...

This has probably been done to death - if so sorry!

I am after some bib shorts / bib tights at the moment.. now in general I have been quite willing to compromise slightly when buying base layers, jackets etc. and have sacrificed some of the close fit of clothing in order to have my sleeves where they should be (yes I am a lanky b*****d!) but I can't really do the same when buying legwear.

This post was prompted by seeing a reference to this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-vaeon-roubaix-padded-bib-short-and-bib-tight/ in the 'found a bargain' thread. I thought the deal looked fairly good, had a quick look at the sizing guidelines and discovered that I need to put on another 11 inches around the waist...

Now obviously these things are stretchy so I will end up going for something more close fitting around the waist and hope that I don't end up with exposed ankles / calves but would love some suggestions at what to try. I'm 6' 4'' and have a 33'' waist.

I've found Gore are quite good for my tall but skinny physique - is anyone aware of other affordable brands?

I'm 6ft 5 with a 34" waist and have found its better to get smaller sizes as they stretch along your legs but not neccesarily around your waist. I would also be interested to hear what other people in a similar position do as I have only bought a few items and not versed enough on other brands. Pretty much all my kit is Altura and that seems pretty good for the money. Have a look on ebay 'deals' sound a bit daft but they are usually proper retailers selling stuff dirt cheap.

I got some from decathlon tonight, the 7 series membrane. Great padding and look very warm with the membrane. I am 6'3 with a 34 inch waist and large fit me well in all the right places.

I tend to disagree.

I have the other problem, until my recent Specialists' (There were two of them from different disciplines.) advice to lose some weight, I had a 40" waist and 27" legs. Now over the years I cut off enough material from my trousers to clothe a third world country, because they all seem to assume if my waist is 40" my legs are too! 24lbs lighter I'm still a 38, and, you've guessed it, the shortest leg length many ranges have for a 38" waist is 31". Bloody infuriating as it costs my dear wife time and effort to shorten all my new trousers. Before I met her it used to cost money. As a Yorkshireman you can imagine how traumatic that used to be. :banghead:

I'm 6'8" with a 36" waist - I think if the longs have stirrups at the end then there's usually enough stretch in them to do the job. If they don't have the stirrups then I might as well buy 3/4 lengths!

Completely...

So you haven't had any problems with things not stretching enough lengthwise?

No generally the Roubaix ones are very stretchy. The ones with windproof panels are slightly less stretchy but still ok. I would caveat that though by totally agreeing with what Ohnovino says about foot loops.

I am 6'3 and have a waist of 34" and I do not have a problem with the length of longs, 3/4 or bib shorts.

I do find the sleeves on some clothing can be a tad short if I get the right chest size, but I find certain brands fit better than others.

I have those bib tights in XL. I am 6'3" and only have a 34" waist and they fit fine.

The only problem I usually have is that they are so warm they come out for the January commute only.

IMO, you are almost correct but the long clothes generally are sized for 38" waists!
As you say, Gore are good for skinny lanky people, as are Assos. TBH, if you are an unusal size you probably won't have anywhere near as much choice as a person of average proportions. Gore and Assos it is for you my friend - start saving those pennies!
