The average value of your bikes

Add up the replacement value of all of your bikes and divide the total by the number of bikes.

Before too long we'll be able to calculate the average value of CC member list's entire fleet!

I think there may be some fault in the maths as if someone owns lots of bikes they should count more than someone else's one bike.

My three (Off road £40, Folder £50 and Road £130 all second hand) work out to just £73 each!

Av = £1,737, but ask the Doris and she'll give you a figure of about a third of that as I may have 'rounded down' the cost of some of these bikes when talking to her.

Do I include just the bikes or the extras as well?

My road bike cost £1,050 but have added an SON hub dynamo plus lights for an extra £260. Mountain bike - £300, folder, £1,200, total about £2800, average, a little over £900.

Fancy the idea sometime in the future of replacing the mountain bike with a bombproof, do anything, bad weather/on or off road bike based on this frame, a Shimano Alfine 11 (when it comes out), hub or disk brakes and full chaincase. That will no doubt come to over a grand as well.

Cost and value are different things of course. At least two of my bikes I got ridiculously cheap compared to what they were priced new at the time. So, I guess, in terms of value, we're talking about £250 for the hack icebike, £400 for the singlespeed, £700 for the racer, £800 for the Kaffenback, £800 for the Brompton, and about £1500 for the MTB. So around £750...

Ha ha ha I got my roadie for about £300 new, 5yrs ago (it's good though!) and my MTB/commuter/whatever for £30

I have a British Raleigh which cost me £5 but in all fairness could only be replaced by another from eBay or a Pashley Roadster at £450.

I had a Chinese Raleigh (£150) which if were to be stolen, I would have sent a sympathy card to the thief.

The Brompton is worth about £850 nowadays, and the Pashley Guvnor about £850 too.

Then there is the mountain bike which is worth about £120.

So my average is £484!
