On Saturday, having just broken in my B.17 after a couple of weeks commuting, used my streetbike which has a 'firm' gel saddle. Cor, it was like riding on Grandma's old feather bed - !

A couple of weeks to break in a B17? It needs more like a couple of years, young Simon. ;)

I got the narrow B17 on my Brompton and it's been comfy since new.

When I occasionally find myself on a cushioned seat, I do really notice how soft they can be, and so on - but when I am riding my B17, or Swift, afterwards I am taken by how I don't notice the saddle at all.
Also, I don't wear padded shorts, and happily do a century on my Brooks and my glutes are never the sorest part of me!

A couple of hundred miles; that's about how long it took to get comfy young Alan. Even with me weighing a paltry 65 kg., I've already noticed the necessary indents in the saddle - !

I have B-17s on all my bikes and never had the least bit of trouble breaking them in - and I don’t wear padded shorts either. I have just put the saddles on and ridden away without any discomfort at all. And they just get better with age. Some of my saddles are over 25 years old now.
