Difficult to pick one, but the one that stands out in the last 10 years is Radiohead at the Manchester Evening News about 8 or 9 years ago.

Brian Setzer is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.

Would you really class him as underrated, anyone who knows music knows this bloke is brilliant and he's got his own signature Gretsch!

There are folk like Clapton and Richards who are really overrated, maybe that kind of skews it.

Yes I would, he's hardly, if ever features in 'best guitarists' listings.

Seen lots. From Junior Walker to Joy Division, but my first & most memorable was Edwin Starr at Middleton civic hall.
I must have been about 15, He was superb.
Saw him a few more times, the last one he was doing a P.A. at an 70,s / grab a gran night on Eastbourne pier. He came on singing to backing tracks. half the punters in there had no idea who he was:sad:.
any way, in the middle of his spot the backing track packed up, so he,s just stood there on stage, no music. No worries!
Edwin got down onto the dance floor & cranked out a medley of Motown songs. Heard it through the grapevine, Get ready, Uptight etc. for about 10/15 minutes. Just him & a mic.til the sound got sorted. Outstanding!

Saw Siouxsie & Banshees at Leeds Uni in the late(??) 80's, went with a couple of Goth friends

I take it you mean the 'Brian Setzer Orchestra'???
I'd love to see them too - got a DVD though

Yes and no. I'd love to see him play his general, solo stuff and sold Stray Cats stuff, but I'd take the Orchestra too.

Totally agree that he is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. He's never in any of the rankings. He'd easily make my Top 20 and he was one of the biggest influences to me picking up the guitar.

Reverend Horton Heat is another rockabilly guitarist who is not well known but is amazing. Just saw them live last month.

Those lists are rubbish though, generally they're the 'most famous guitarist'. But I concede to your point, you being in the biz an all that.

Rockabilly has a bit of credibility problem outside of its fanbase. It's seen as simple, nostalgic and a bit silly by 'serious critics', which unfortunately means that great musicians who play in that style don't get recognised.

The problem rockabilly has breaking outside of its fan base is that unfortunately a lot of it is just rubbish. And talking of serious critics, Colin Escott is your man when it comes to rockabillyology - his bread and butter seems to be liner notes for country albums but his big thing is rockabilly, writes a good book too.

Love 'em. Seen them a few times. Their album Liquor In The Front is essential listening...
