"I hurt myself today" Hurt by Johnny Cash
As much as I love Johnny Cash and that song, it has to be acknowledge that it was a cover version of a Nine Inch Nail's song.

more a verse than a one liner

A broom is drearily sweeping
up the broken pieces of yesterdays life
Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
And the wind, it cries Mary

six pages and no mention of Hal David??? unless i missed it.

Magic Moments is packed full of perfectly simple gems... especially this one:

The halloween hop when everyone came in funny disguises

...and the solemn way he ends the cinematic song 24 Hours From Tulsa:

when i can never... never... never.... go home again

Hurt by Nine Inch Nails (although I do prefer the JC version)
I think I'm alone in HATING the Johnny Cash version. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big JC fan, and I LOOOOOOVE most of the 'American' stuff, but that song (and the vid) just seem incongruous to me, they just don't go with JC, I'm afraid. Most of the song works, but the 'hurt' bit (if meant physically) just doesn't work for me.
