I leave the house at 07:15 when it's still dark but for the last couple of days I've noticed bird song. Even noticed it at 06:00 when I've gone out to "water" the lawn.
The local starling population (around 5000) have decided to roost in the conifers on our estate so we get a lovely show every afternoon as they perform their aerial acrobatics and then two hours of incessant chatter as they settle down for the evening.
There’s something strange going on. When I left work last night it was a very comfortable 11c, shouldn’t we all be going round shivering from the cold and wrapped up in scarves and gloves this time of year?
A woodpecker was beating an enthusiastic tattoo in the woods this morning. Lovely to hear and see all the growth and activity but I hope the winter remains this mild. A dip in the temperature with frosts and snow would not be good news.
