...from my flat, has got himself a bike. On the Cyclescheme thing (I saw the envelope for him on the post table last week). He arrived back at the flats as I was coming out, and was fitting D lock holder and lights and stuff. Black, Specialised, looked a bit MTBish to me as I went past - chunky, knobblies, no mudguards or anything (am I sounding suitably withering here?xx() I wonder if he'll try and cram it in the lobby downstairs (just room for the two bikes there at the moment, with blocking in the lady in flat one), or take it up to his flat. He better not park it in 'my' space...

If I sound uncharitable, it's because he plays his music a bit too loud and late at night, and I know it's upset the lady below a bit at times. If I can hear it above him, it must be loud underneath...

Still, it was very shiny...

So, Let's discuss this...I'll start.
The man downstairs has chunky knobblies... xx(;)

You should probably make lots of enthusiastic noises about it - how new and shiny it is, what beautiful paintwork etc. etc...

Then mention how many scratches your bikes have received whilst stored in communal areas.xx(

Like your thinking....

I'd be happy to store mine upstairs, if it weren't for... the stairs! two flights, with tight u turns, I always end up bashing any bike I carry against the wall, and carrying it down is worse, I worry about tripping and breaking my neck...

And as usual for the "part time" cyclist he's chosen, or worse been advised, to get a MTB for his entirely tarmac ridden commute!

Nah. He'll be on the pavement ;)

Perhaps a photocopy of the CTC application and the highway code for cyclists annonymously through his letterbox would be beneficial

Do it the continental way.

Fit a couple of pulleys to the window frame and then pull the bike up outside the window. Fix in place with a wall anchor and "D LOck"

No passers by to scratch the frame, and fairly secure from opportunist theft.
