Lovely terain generally but the surfaces on some the less frequented lanes have deteriorated this year; particularly the descent on Hale Lane leading to Wendover and Arrewig Lane in both directions. IMO, to be avoided unless you enjoy following a fine line between potholes to the left and ahead and gravel to the right.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Hale Lane has always been horrible. I did Arrewig Lane once, years ago - never again. You should have asked - there are several locals on here who could have advised you.
The area is reasonably fine as long as you avoid the smaller lanes. Even on the bigger roads (apart from the A413 which is horrible) the traffic is light at worst, and very used to having bikes around.
I should acknowledge that of all the places I've ridden, Buckinghamshire is the worst for road surface (Surrey is a close second). But it's still possible to find reasonably decent and safe roads without too much hassle. Unless your name is @GrumpyGregry
