I don't like Christmas. I am not religious, and I don't like the commercialism of it where people are compelled to spend loads of money that they don't have on tat for people who don't want it.

I agree BUT the spirit of Christmas is for kids, like it or not. I hate all this 'I haven't got kids so it's shoot' attitude. There are plenty of kids (we have all been one I'm sure) who would like to experience Christmas through their eyes, and haven't had the chance.

I don't agree that the spirit of Christmas IS just for kids, although nobody will deny they get the most sense of magic and fulfillment out of it. I have some religious belief and I think Christmas should be a time to consider our humanity and our fellow men. If I had my way on Christmas day etc I'd be helping at the local 'Crisis at Christmas' or doing something charitable for those less fortunate. That's what the spirit of Christmas should be about, not piles of toys for kids and lining the pockets of commerce.

Think of others this Christmas.

How about if we switched Jan 1st to the morning after the longest night of the year and just had one big winter party and the whole country to shut down for a week? No mention of it allowed until one week before.

This could come out all wrong but I took it up to their flat on Monday night- Rob was on his own for a while...and it went down very well with her apparently.
And Rob.
But it was nice, just slinking up there, setting up and departing. I'll post a pic if I can get one that he sent, before I drift back into humbuggery.

So, more channels = more repeats. What a shock!

Think I'll set the recorder for the Royle Family - have to see my role model Jim - and move the TV set into the garage for the duration.

I'm not too bothered about Christmas as an event.

What I DO like about it is that I've got so many days hol left that my last day is next Friday (and I'm taking a half-day at that) and that's me off until 2010 Lots of time to lie in, spend more time with my daughter, play computer games, read books, listen to music and get through a massive backlog of good films that I've saved up.

Who cares about the commercial excess? Not me. I'm not going out shopping. 99% of it's already been done online and has arrived. The rest I can pick up in Tesco with my weekly food shopping.

Even my 9yr-old daughter doesn't seem that bothered this year - "Get me something you'd think I'd like!" So she's getting rather a lot of books (since she LOVES reading).

I agree completely, except I'm an atheist. It's a Christian festival, but I choose to use the time as an opportunity to do as FF suggests.
