So...is it just the usual Turkey or is anyone having something different?

Will it be full crytal glasses and best china or paper plates and throw away cups?

are the in laws coming or are they banned?

Before or after the queens speech?

Posh crackers or homemade?

Home or away?

Hot toddy or hot totti?

..do tell.

Well ... we are at home, just us (though we have invited our neighbour over though I don't think they will come - normally they are away for Christmas but he is stuck waiting on surgery that was cancelled this week).

As for what it will be ... definitely gammon, and sausages in their blankets, roast potatoes, parnips in maple syrup, cranberry and chestnut stuffing balls. However yet to decide on the main meat... I'd like duck but there wasn't any last night.

And drip feeding the presents throughout the day rather than in a rush at the beginning. And maybe if the weather is nice, a post dinner ride (no I won't be going out if it is wet and miserable).

And for afters, my Mum's homemade Christmas pudding - far nicer than the shop bought stuff. All washed down with wine and probably a few other liquids:santa:

Goose here! (with a bit of Turkey for good measure).

Smoked Salmon, scrambled eggs and Champagne for brekkie.
Goose, Turkey, Gammon, Pigs in Blankets, Parsnips Sprouts, proper Bread sauce, Red Cabbage, King Ed's cooked in Goose fat .... after that I really don't care!
Cold supper of meats pickles and some scrummy Cropwell Bishop Stilton!

Chablis, Chateau-Neuf and Montepulciano!

Wa hey!

Haven't you started a little early????

I'm currently mega cleaning the kitchen - so that I have enough work top space for all those trays with potatoes, carrots etc on ... I have to do a bit of a juggling act as we only have a small oven. I might make the cranberry sauce though when I'm done. (No point the kitchen being spotless for too long!!)

Turkey here with the usual roast spuds, carrots, peas, and of course sprouts. A bit of swede and some parsnips will be on offer for them's that like 'em too. Pigs in blankets too I think.
Kind of run of the mill but everyone likes it like that so why prepare something that might not be to everyone's taste?

Home made Christmas pud and mince pies for pudding along with jelly for the unfortunates who don't like pudding.

The usual wines, beers, paper hats, crackers, coffees, mints etc etc etc.

Oh and most important of all............good cheer and happy smiling faces.

I prefer the Christmas Eve and Boxing day fare. I can't bin the turkey remnants fast enough. I'm perfectly happy eating our Xmas dinner sans turkey though I have a small slice to be sociable.

Too many goose eaters on here, the snobs, cold goose on boxing day, urgh! Actually I dont know what we are having, no not Turkey having that on 27th a half price frozen one we bought weeks ago before they hike the prices.I expect glazed ham cooked by pre boiling in fresh orange juice then roasted, with a roast beef. We don't bother with a starter having 3 young kids but for a desert try a bag of mixed fruit steeped overnight in dark rum, simply serve the best vanilla ice cream you can afford then drizzle the christmas rum over the top, gorgeous. After a large Brit dinner of roasted root veg the last thing you want is a heavy pudding to be honest.

Will prep majority of veg Sat morning so Xmas day you can spend studying the instructions of the kids ever more complicated toys, games etc

Enjoy.....

I'm not sure how you can reach that conclusion based on such a small sample size and not a single mention of boxing day goose eating.

Being from Leeds glad your are not having tripe, black pudding, mushy peas n chips on a paper plate whilst watching "when animals do the funniest things + 1 " good to see progress has been made in northern outposts.

It's a quite affair with just the two of us. There's going to be duck - I'm roasting it Chinese style with the crispy skin - we had it with oranges and Xmas style spices last year so this will be different.

Sprouts with chestnuts and bacon, cranberry sauce, roasties in goose fat, parsnips, carrots, pigs in blankets, homemade stuffing with sage and chestnuts (cooked apart from the duck of course)

Dessert, cheeseboard (we've had and made homemade scones already - though the cream was not a good idea for me- slightly allergic to dairy), lots of bits of chocolate, mini xmas puds, there's mince pies floating about and making profiteroles (without dairy for me- orange cream in the others), Pears steeped in wine with cinnamon and citrus. And of course mulled wine. The preparation starts today...

Of up to my parents in Cumbria in couple of hours (bit of a trek from West Somerset, c330 miles).

Luckily for me, my partner is a very good Chef, so we are all going to be spoiled rotten over next 4 days, turkey, salmon, hams, with all the trimmings/extras homemade by her fair hand.....oh, and Champagne, wine, beer, and of course....Cider!

Boy oh boy, are the bikes going to have to take a pasting when I get back next week

Oooh what I'd give for goose. My wife knows my hatred for turkey but has insisted on it as 'it's a family tradition'. I'd like to know whose family she's referring to because it's certainly not ours.....

As a kid we always had Goose and then in the 70s my Mum changed to Turkey (less fatty  ) and that was that. Mrs FF's family were also Turkey only and it was only when I finally decided to put my foot down and have Goose at home that the revolution began. Now we're on our fourth Goose Christmas, but we also prepare a Turkey the day before so everybody can be happy. Cold goose is fab, no worries there.

Vernon, start a small revolution one year or take the family along for a Goose tasting, you won't look back!

Over 30 odd years I have had every type of Turkey grade available and they're all pretty poor IMO. Goose or ribs of Beef for the biggest meal of the year!

(Photos from last year btw)
