I don't know much about Cinco de Mayo
I HATE going to Vue cinema and queueing at a sweet shop counter where cinema tickets are sold as an afterthought then sitting through all the noise of inconsiderate people crackling wrappers and packets and chomping their way through all the crap they bought. We have discovered Home in Manchester, which is a proper cinema where people go who want to watch films and nothing else. Their cafe and bar are also rather good especially as they have understood that big glass and concrete buildings are acoustically lively so they've installed sound-absorbing panels in the ceiling, making them pleasant places to chat with friends.

I go to HB Picture House to see stuff, haven't been to Home but sounds good, I'll make a mental note of that.

It's crazy that people can buy hot dogs and nachos and all sorts of smelly foods and bring them to their seats- who wants to smell that when you're trying to watch? Some places will even serve it to your seat. This is the crazy world we live in.

Both Vue cinemas in Leeds have also reduced prices to £5 a ticket (£2 more for VIP seats).
To be fair, both cinemas are looking a bit down at heel nowadays but when Cineworld and Odeon are charging £10-£12 a pop you can live with it.
I think the Everyman cinema is £15 a ticket, but for obvious reasons I haven't been there.

Top tip at the Vue to avoid the online booking fee scam and the queue behind the family getting a huge order of the world's most expensive snacks from the solitary member of staff, the machines for collecting pre-booked tickets can also be used to buy tickets.
I just pop in early when there's no one there and buy a ticket for later that night... then i have to stand around waiting for my mates in the queue

I'm off to see Farmageddon this afternoon, £6.50 at local Empire with a couple of quid off via my bank account. I'll probably grab a coffee at Costa closeby to sneak in with me

It's in the town centre, and the cinema gives 3 hours free parking :okay: can't complain

It's a nice new cinema which was refurbed a couple of years ago (it was awful before). All the local Odeons are grotty and overpriced. I saw a free film in Kingston in the week...the seats were a mess. Glad I hadn't paid for the experience:rolleyes:

There are actually quite a lot of free "community" screenings around.

In particular in London.

Have seen some excellent films I would otherwise not have even been aware of (Korean porn anyone?)

Far better experience than many cinemas - screens often pretty big (seem as big as some of the 70s split units I went to as a youth where, watching your Fellini you could hear the surf film next door), no eating, film starts promptly with no ads. Even if the film is/has been on the telly I don't mind - I find it easier to concentrate/appreciate the film.

saw an excellent doc on Miles Davis the other day.

The Tyneside Cinema is my favourite around here. £10.95 for a ticket, which I think is a bargain given the quality of the venue and the amount of community work they do.

It's not like the book I presume. That was about how farm animals were intensively bred and fed, living short, miserable lives before a premature slaughter, in areas laid waste by flies and shoot.

I don't bother anymore - way too expensive, especially for a family.

Home is nice, only ever been in to eat !
There is talk of doing up a run down old hotel in our town and a cinema is one of the possible uses. Personally, I am like you and feel that it wouldn't get used if expensive. With large screen tvs, sound bars and the quality of streaming to your home now, it would have to be something very special being screened to make me want to pay £10 plus for the privilege.

£13.70 at my local cinema hence I don't go very often. It has to be something I really, really want to see
