The commute is killing my love for the weekend.

I've worked in London for the last four years and have a great house share,but my next four years is a 32 mile round ride,a day, a big difference too five.
The ride is good i can stay away from a lot of the madness and keep to the canal paths, (mountain bike next, full suspension).
I have just done two weeks on a excellent buy a bog std Specialized sirrus.
But the joy of an early Saturday morning ,blast on my carbon road bike and a Sunday morning loop of my favorite place on so so smooth tarmac is not so appealing.
Anyone else mix the commute with pleasure.?

I've been commuting u miles each way on a full squidge mtb and it's bloody hard work. A rigid or firmly sprung front squidge would be better.

On the plus side I'm seeing deer, hare, foxes, badgers on my commute, so it ain't a bad way to bookend the day.

I do a 35 mile round trip commute daily and I'm always out on a weekend for a long ride. Anywhere between 50 to 150+ miles. I have been doing this length commute for the last 10 years and fortunately my love for the bike and bike riding has never waned in that period of time. I do get that 'Oh I just can't be arsed to go out today' but that is rare as hens teeth and I just don't go out.

But every one is different, if you don't feel like going out, then don't. Don't beat yourself up about it. It will only make you feel worse about the bike and riding. A 32 mile round trip 5 days a week is a lot of cycling anyway. A lot longer then a lot of other cyclists do in a day, week, month.

Its probably going to take a while for your body to get used to the extra miles so dont be too alarmed you don't feel like doing weekend riding as well. Give it a couple of months to adjust . I do 4 days a week, 140-200 miles total dependinding on the weather. I take all my gear in on wednesdays and have a rest, saves carrying all that extra stuff on my commmute days so can get away with a large saddlebag. Weekends is easy for me as my missus is now a keen newbie, so I ride shotgun for her, she slogs her guts out whilst I just spin, which i am sure will change as she gets fitter. As someone else suggested have a day off midweek or Friday.

I get the can't be arsed feeling. Usually in the week when the alarm goes off!!

It goes when I have got up tho. Same if I am out for a long one at the weekend. The inertia of getting started is the ballache. Once I get going I just keep going
