About a fortnight ago, I ordered and paid for a rear carrier light from The Cycle Warehouse. It hasn't arrived, and I have been emailing to ask for a delivery date but with no repsonse. I checked their website again tonight and it appears they have gone into administration. I have emailed the administrators for a refund, with no hope of success. That's thirteen quid to chalk up to experience, I suppose. Just a warning for anyone out there who may have had, or intended to have, dealings with them. Shame, really, as they were cheapest by a mile (perhaps there's a clue there).

Did you pay by credit card? If so, the card company should refund you.

I paid by Paypal, so I have opened a dispute there. The seller has until the end of the month to respond, which won't happen I guess, so it could be a slow process. I have also contacted the administrators to be listed as a creditor, although for a small amount this is pretty hopeless. Thanks.

I once had a dispute with a seller I'd paid via PayPal that I hadn't had a response from for two weeks and PayPal refunded the money by the end of the conversation. The goods I'd been refunded for turned up ten days later.

Sounds promising. I would imagine Paypal would be keener to sort out an issue with a seller who continued to trade. Refunding a customer where the firm has gone out of business, I can't see much benefit for them there. We shall see.

Only if the purchase was over £100
That wasn't my experience in a dispute where I returned something and received no refund until the CC company did so on the retailers behalf...indeed they were very quick to respond after the CC company refunded the full amount of the transaction and not just that for the returned item

Chargeback schemes
If something you bought cost less than or up to £100, you might instead be able to claim a refund through your credit card company's Chargeback scheme.

I never use PayPal if avoidable, after they refused a refund years ago following an eBay scam

Yes but the trader has gone out of business so it isnt a chargeback.

Sounds promising, thanks all. Paypal say they will attempt to resolve with the seller for 10 days (not sure why) and will give me an answer after that. It's not like it's a massive amount, and I have already written it off to experience, but it would be nice to get something back. We shall see.

I would have thought paypal will give you your money back, as a buyer paypal are very good because they side with the buyer most of the time, not so good if you are a seller but thats another story
