Agree with your post except to point out that not everyone who cycles in london is, all the time, hot pedalling it to work. I spend a fair amount of time drifting/pootling around london for cultural stuff. There are however a pretty high proportion of cycling ****s in london who should learn to chill

That's a fair point buddy. I've never cycled round London or any city to be honest. Most of the cyclist's I see though were I live , ride for leisure and the general impression I usually get about cycling in the city is that people cycle because it's a lot quicker than taking the car as well of course the benefits for health and environment. It's bit of a narrow minded view I have got i suppose on what it's like to live in a big city.

No-one, absolutely no-one acknowledges anyone else in the Netherlands.

I did spend a couple of hours in The Netherlands seeing if I could get a wave off other cyclists. Two I think it was.

You are both either very ugly or extremely dangerous looking or a combination of both - certainly in the Dutch cities when there are hundred of cyclists flitting about I dont really expect much interaction with other cyclists - however, it does happen - and when out in the sticks - exchanging good mornings and good days I found on my recent tour to be pretty common - plus there are the ones that cruise up alongside and jabber away - being a bit deaf and non-dutch/french/german speaking I'm not keen on that - but normally stop and have a chat if they are inclined - ditto Belgium, France (sometimes difficult to get my bonjour in first), Germany and Switzerland

Personally i'm not particularly bothered if people do not respond to a jolly greeting - but i have noticed that my bonjours received to bonjours given ratio is pretty high (typically probably averages over 2 - Sundays can go over 30 on occasion depending on the size of the peloton) - just down to the vibes you give out I suppose

Never assume anything about folk johnny, including folk on bikes. Four of my bikes have played a part in innocent mischief, nowt to do with work or culture. All the best.

I suspect those services are carried out far away from them, so I doubt I would.

I estimate I'll see c200 cyclists on my 10 mile ride in to work. Ive been at junctions with 30-40 other cyclists.

Work. Isn't that something the lower orders do?

returns a greeting: started cycling before team gb started winning more than odd medal at the olympics (when cycling was more of a subculture), or has joined a club

no return: took the sport up recently and just doesn't know the etiquette…
