Why not just sit down?. Its easy, no splashing or streams going anywhere .
Far worse than unhygienic bog seats...as Sir Billy pointed out, is a wee beige jobby left for you to deal with by someone else....

I think the seat crashing down fear stems from when I was young . My mum had a 1950's cabinet in the kitchen which had a work surface flap which hinged downwards . Being small at the time I just fitted underneath when it was fully open . The catch being a bit worn would sometimes let go and the flap would come crashing down ! This happened twice that I can remember . On my head! It's a wonder that I wasn't knocked out . Watching Antiques Road Trip just reminded me of it .
