An Italian friend of mine once said that no one who studies Vesuvius lives in Naples...

We (as a species) will be long gone anyway by the time the Sun goes pop - we'll either have evolved into something different, or been wiped out by some natural catatrophe, or wiped ourselves out.

I think this is the more likely scenario, unless of course a large natural disaster intervenes
