Fergie's charity phone in didn't go as planned:

She has reinvented herself as a TV crusader confronting obesity and hoodies on Britain's streets.

But Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, seems to have had enough of the limelight, claiming she wanted to 'go and live in a hole' after a barrage of criticism from BBC Radio 5 Live listeners.

But her good work was dismissed by one furious caller from the area who accused her of ruining its reputation and insisted that many locals were annoyed they would be portrayed badly in the forthcoming documentary.

Bacon attempted to defend her by pointing out the show had yet to air but within minutes another angry listener had rung in to take the Duchess to task on another issue.

The caller, Josie, said:

'Good morning Sarah, I just wondered how you could justify £300,000 being spent on your daughters' apartment at St James's Palace?

'When people are really struggling to make ends meet and you're coming on the radio telling us all about your charitable-work, yet your family is taking £300,000 of taxpayers' money just to do up your families' apartment.'

The Duchess retorted:

'Well Josie I'm a taxpayer like you so why don't you go and ask someone else, not me?'

Her voice was shaking at the end, the stupid cow.

Residents of Wythenshawe were justifiably annoyed at its protrayal as a hellhole, with redemtion only possible via the divine intervention of a fat has-been Sloane who got lucky.

That's rather flattering in my view.

That's a bad place though. I go through there 6-7 times a month on my way to Wythenshawe hospital and even during the day, you see some disturbing sights. Last week, while waiting for a bus to pull out, I witnessed a huge teenage chavette in almost-bursting leggings with her equally disturbing Ma Bacon-looking mother emerge from her local chippy. To pacify the crying from the inevitable pram, she bent over (struggling to do so) and passed her baby a nutritious chip. Mmmm.

I watched it.
The thing that sort of annoys me, is how she thinks she can turn the whole place around. Almost like she wants to show that she is doing a good thing. Which, if it does work she is, but is she going to go around to every rough area and do the same thing?
Theres loads of areas around here that are rough, will she turn up and sort them out?

When she walked back to the bed and breakfast from the pub i think it was made to look worse. Ok it may have been abit scary for her, but not that bad. She had a whole film crew, and more then likely people there to protect her just in case, so its not anything worrying.

In the Richard Bacon interview you sensed he was getting impatient with her total ignorance of the issues. She spoke in managerial-speak, platitudes that meant nothing. Bit of a PR disaster.
