I brew me own beer rather than buy it. Works out at 40p a pint. May have to start doing my own spirits too.
Aye but your talking about that Irish stuff.....whiskey
If someone is shopping in Aldi and wants a bottle of blended Scotch, yes. Because Aldi don't tend to sell the big brands. It's not as if they'll be short of other products to sell as loss leaders or to get footall. Is anyone actually going to buy a bottle of Highland Earl for the same price as Grouse/Bells?

Nanny state. They'll be setting minimum pricing on deep fried Mars bars next.

You'll probably find that "Highland Earl" is made by the same people as make one of the other big brands - most of the distilleries are now in the hands of one or other of the international drinks conglomerates.
The Aldi range of own brand whisky has won awards in blind taste tests, beating established brands from the big boys. Suspect they will do even better as people look for the cheapest best tasting options.
Wouldn't you need a license for this as the Treasury sees the brewing of spirits as taxable?I brew me own beer rather than buy it. Works out at 40p a pint. May have to start doing my own spirits too.
