Its been announced that the Spurs goalie, Vicario, is having a hernia operation and is expected to miss the next 2 managers.

Like that one, you dont see the punchline till the last second...perfect

The last time Italy won the world cup (2006), I was in Italy and can definitely say the fans loved it (for several non-stop days).

No doubt they did and I enjoyed their victory as well, but it was 20 long years ago and apart from their victory over us (England) in the Covid, year delayed Euro 2020 final they've had a long period of gloom! Hypothetically speaking, would those Italian fans in 2006 have given up their victory for constant tournament involvement in the following decades? I think they would have. Being there but not winning it is better than winning it but not being there many times later, in my opinion.

Does anyone here remember England winning it? Before my time. I reckon Italians, who've won it three times, might feel winning it was pretty good

I would have been 5, and was totally unaware. Was living near Glasgow though so maybe not a surprise

Is it about taking part in the odd tournament and winning it. Or is it about being in every tournament, making the odd final but winning nothing?🤔 I'd say the tv companies, pubs, fans will say the latter.

I'd say the former but then I'd take relegation with a cup win over constant successful relegation battles and no trophies.
I may be an outlier but I think football became a business and stopped being about the fans a long, long time ago.

According to a friend, me and him who lived on the same street, with him still living there, watched the 1966 final in another neighbour's house, but I can't remember it, being 5 years old. So yes, I watched it, but have no recollection of it. My first football memory was/is the 1969 FA Cup final between Man City and Leicester City.
