I think you could argue that was also the English approach up until the last decade or two. We were incredibly slow to catch on to what the likes of France/Spain/Germany were doing.

Ironically, England were still producing some really special players. But on the continent they just couldn't understand why we hadn't built a team around Glen Hoddle, for instance. Too often they were considered "luxury players" rather than footballers that could take control of the game with their passing and vision - often the case in their own clubs as well.

Ron Greenwood was ahead of his time in that respect, getting his West Ham sides playing in a more continental way to what was the norm back in the sixties. Unfortunately back then defenders were allowed to kick lumps out of their opponents without sanction and all Greenwood could produce were cup teams. He would be right up the top in today's game.

Quansah two game ban for the red. Very harsh, red and a standard 1 game ban is fair but his leg clearly rolled over the ball causing the high foot, no way was it malicious.

Kane, Rice and Bellingham all on a yellow is a worry, particularly with Clement Turpin as our ref. He is good but he does like to dish out cards to establish his authority.

-1 for the stuttering penalty run up again. Although the half an hour wait probably didn't help Mbappe.

Not sure what the hold up was. It was obvious from a single reply that there was no foul on the Morocco player and Mbappe was brought down.

Mbappe played for the penalty. There was simply not enough certainty to overturn it. Thus the delay.
Seems we need a rule about falls that happen before the foot contact.
Kanes none penalty had similarities.

Messi is the true master at gaining free kicks and penalties.

This.
They had to check for the dive and Mbappe clearly has better timing than Kane who telegraphed his claim in.

Yes, and the difference was the referees initial decision. Some time in the distant future we will benefit/lose to an AI referee.
Things work far better in cricket

Morocco got what they deserved from that game: nothing.

I appreciate that compared to France they are more limited but at least go down fighting, and not with a tame whimper.
