Knew he was about to get booted so he jumped straight in front of Digne (hence why he turned away and made no attempt to play the ball). Very deliberate from Yamal but still a pen.

If taht was a penalty, then so was the one England weren't given. He jumped in front of the boot with no attempt to get the ball.

I would very much agree it should be the case, but my understanding is that the rules/laws are written in a very specific way. The Spence one was ruled out as the attacker cannot change their line i.e. step across the defender. Yamal didn't change his line or jump across Digne, he just got in the line of his kick.

I saw it differently. Yamal was in the air before the boot was swung.
Also different from the Kane one in that actual contact took place after the springboard tonight. But you know, opinions and all that.

A mate of mine is of the same opinion. When I ask him why, he just says "Because they do".

The mind boggles.

The main argument is that FIFA really doesn’t want a European team to win it again.
They don’t like UEFA and probably fear the UEFA teams leaving if the expansion continues. Which is why FIFA are focusing on anyone but Europe.
Since 1954 there has always been at least one European team in the final. And that run continues.

Was the statement incorrect about the last 4 finals ?

No, but heavily dependent on the tense, "will have been". Abject apologies. I've been alternating glasses of Spanish Verdejo and French Cotes de Gascogne.

Edit: Can't afford Nyetimber, so might be on Argentine Malbec tomorrow.
The French looked as if they'd enjoyed a traditional Bastille Day lunch with a bottle apiece too.
