I always thought the boundary was in Pontefract, because many years ago the sign on the M62 as you approached the A1 junction said :
The North
The South
Pontefract.

It doesn't any more. Nowadays it just says The North and The South. My memories of that road were when it finished there, before they extended it to Hull.

You get that at most if not all junctions on north-south motorways. The often confusing one to motorists unaware is at the western end of the M18 where the lanes on the southern side of the carriageway are M1 The North and on the northern side M1 The South.

Just chatting about the City fiasco and the facts emerging.
We plus the FA and FIFA etc have to keep in mind that the whole football world are looking at this. All clubs, even in the Champions League will be asking "do we want to play against a cheating club".
My view is that only expulsion will suffice.
I agree with you. Would it mean the end of the club? I don't know.

Without getting all political about this Andy Burnham has made, as have others, City helped make a huge impact on the regeneration of the general area and probably the city as a whole.

For instance there's a very good pizza restaurant we always visit enroute to Co-op Live or the Etihad (for music, not footie). Without this regeneration our group of four probably wouldn't be in Manchester spending +/-£120 on food plus other bits of spending.

Think you have a mistaken view of the morality of those running football clubs. They will ask can we benefit from this and what do we do to make it financially more advantageous to us.

the outcome may be the same, but the pathway to the outcome is not I think the way you put it

So, apparently an expulsion for City would require a vote by the clubs, where they'd need to reach a 75% threshold. An expulsion could see clubs lose a home match this season, plus potential TV money from both matches - and maybe having to recompense the TV companies for loss of matches, that could actually get quite expensive. Clubs who have sold players to City with success clause extra payments will also stand to lose cash. With a fair few clubs teetering right on the edge of the financial regulations that could see them fined/docked points themselves if they lost that income.

Others have also pointed out that Arsenal - who might have a fair amount of weight in league politics - have an extremely lucrative sponsorship from Emirates that could potentially be jeopardised.

So in all, unlikely. Unfortunately.

I genuinely can't see expulsion happening but then I've no idea what a commensurate punishment might look like. It's a right mess. The horse has bolted, been out for so long and done so much damage that it's difficult to know how or where to redress. Any punishment is going to have to walk such a tight line that it's inevitably and obviously not going to please all those perhaps rightly wanting Man City hung, drawn and quartered. Though I see it as much a problem with the Prem, indeed the business of football generally.

Expulsion looks like an absolute 'mare to organise especially now that the season's started.

Have a horrible feeling it'll be a fine plus a level of points deduction that might keep the fight alive until the end of the season.

Being logical (I know, I know), the punishment should be proportional to that which Everton got in line with the offences committed.
I can dream.

Expulsion is no problem. All points so far from the City matches would just be wiped out.

Don't underestimate the anger towards Man City from the other clubs, and the financial loss from gate revenue would be minimal if any. When one big club goes, another steps in to fill the void. A fine would be a farcial punishment, unless it was in the multi billions they would just shrug it off.

I think there's a question about how they pay their fine, isn't there? Given what it's for, I doubt their owners can just pay it for them, so their books are automatically unbalanced and they may need to sell players. Add the multiple lawsuits heading their way for lost earnings and it could be a financial nuclear bomb for them. Everton had to pay 35 mill to Burnley, didn't they? On top of their fine?

European clubs could also be licking their lips - I doubt they need a UEFA charge to be able to launch similar lawsuits
