Had an eventful ride in this morning with both good and bad behaviour on my part.
It all started <swirly effect> in Kirkliston. There's a set of lights then about 400 metres of road which has firstly a 90 deg right, then the brow of a steep hill, then a 90 deg left at the bottom of the hill. I can get up enough speed to move with traffic here so I always take primary, given the layout of the road. A school minibus waited behind me until we were on the steep hill approaching the blind corner. Then she pulls out across to the other side of the road and left hooks me to get back in before the bend, jamming her brakes on. I had my hands full of brakes, back wheel skidding and slowing me enough to miss the back of the bus by ooh, about 8 inches. Off she goes.
I know there will be a queue of traffic about a mile later, so I ponder whether to stop and have a word with her. I thought yes I should but as constructively as possible. So on I went til I caught up with her in a queue. The following took place when I knocked on her window and she wound it down:
Me: Do you realise you nearly knocked me off there?
Her: I was fine. You were in the middle of the road.
Me: You overtook me on a steep hill, approaching a blind corner, then swerved back in front of me jamming your brakes on. I was nearly under your back wheels. (getting angry)
Her: You shouldn't have been in the middle of the road then
Me: I've as much right to be there as you!
Her: I was absolutely fine, nothing wrong with my driving.
Me: Just think about it. Someone will end up in hospital if you drive like that and sadly it probably wont be you.
Her: Fine fine fine fine fine!:?:
Off I went.
Having stopped to speak calmly, I left furious, moreso than the actual incident left me.
On I went into work. When I got to Maybury, I was still thinking about it. I filtered on the left hand side which is something I NEVER do there and a bloke in an Astra cut across a la SMIDSY in a similar proximity to Magna's close overtake video. That one was mostly my fault - atrocious roadcraft. If by any small chance you read this, sorry mate my reaction was uncalled for!
I think in future I should not stop to debate things with drivers - I don't have the temperament for it!
One footnote; the anger resulted in me hammering it to work in my quickest time this year so far. So not all bad!
