1) Manchester drivers, this morning.

Observant, courteous - especially on Parrs Wood road (odd in itself) lots of room given whilst overtaking. The only slightly questionable thing I can think of is a lady in a grey C3 who was a bit too close (but didn't try to squeeze past, nonetheless) at the traffic islands on Manchester Road.

2) Haytons Buses

They're great - courteous and observant, they even stop to allow you through where the road is narrowed by parked cars instead of barging on regardless

I let a Taxidriver out this morning from a side road into a queue of traffic where she was struggling to get in. I think her head nearly exploded 'Scanners' style as her worldview collapsed.

Parrs Wood Road was good, both directions - dropped off a file on Oxford Road, then came back down to South Manchester. The cycle lane is pointless most of the time as it's full of parked cars, but was fine despite being within about 2-3 foot of the middle line for most of the road's length.

The bad bit was the A34 section near Levenshulme for about half a mile - most of the drivers were making two hap hazard lanes in a single lane space - right tricky to get past them, until the cycle lane started that is....

LOL, quality! I love shocking people through their negative expectations like this.

Two thumbs-ups from bus drivers in the last two days as I slowed and let them out of their stops.

Then again, LRT drivers are (on my route anyway) excellent and very bike-aware.

I do find it a bit depressing that it's not expected, sometimes (particularly when people are surprised that I give way to them where I'm supposed to).

I pass a few explicit "Give Way" junctions (where bikes (should) yield to pedestrians) and zebra crossings on my way home, and stop to let pedestrians cross where I'm supposed to, often to their great surprise, it seems.

(Arg - it's my thread and I've already put it on a downer!)

After what I just posted in "the Bad", the resulting good tonight was that I was so riled that I shaved 4 minutes off the time I'd done yesterday on the way home. A little bit of frustration, taken out by turning the pedals faster, works miracles.

All you Machester jobbies, I hear of these roads when I occ. listen to manchester radio though no that much now..but used to quite a bit for traffic and the likes....

I find the majority of people in Manchester pretty good - better than liverpool (who can be a bit up their own arse) people in fact and thats saying something !

Chapeau! To the Airparks bus driver who passed me this morning on Wilmslow Road. Waited behind me until the road ahead was clear (I'd been watching traffic ahead too, and moved over the facilitate him passing), and on passing gave me bags of room, and didn't pull in abruptly after making the overtake.

Excellent.

Today's hat tip goes to the driver of the Pickford's lorry that let me through the lights first, and then gave me scads of room around the two roundabouts directly after. If I could find contact details for the company, I'd be writing appreciatively now (will look properly later).

Today's brickbat goes to the pillock paying so little attention to the road that he had to screech to a reasonable speed behind me, as I twitched the bike over to the left in a desperate attempt to get out of the way. I thought I was in for an off again with that one.
