The greatest song ever written.

[Dayvo]

I'm one of the 32%, I just don't get that song, sorry chaps.

No taste in music, but at least your maths is OK!

The OP has all the stuff CoG attributes to it, but surely lacking in musical innovation and political import.

I give you the Killer..

Yes! The original version is just weird and creepy, but JC's version is something which will reduce 68% of men to inexplicable tears within seconds of hearing it.

I remember the first time I saw it on TV... for one of the only times in my life...I was dumbstruck.

Impossible question, of course, but this floats...

Is that one of the statistics furnished by 64% of the population who fabricate them on the spot to support their viewpoint?

Yep! Sure is
the song makes me blubber - I can't even click on the you tube link in this thread for fear of a blubber attack.

Richard Thompson's the performer who makes me tearful.

Love "Killing Moon"!

[slowmotion]

I humbly suggest that Johnny Cash's "Hurt" lacked subtlety. Billy Idol can nuance these varied emotions more sensitively.

It has always occurred to me that this would be a great song for doing a long distance tour when things are against you. Please excuse the corny graphics by the way:

I first heard this years ago and it has always stuck with me. Tells a proper story, with no happy ending.

[Flying_Monkey]

Allegri's Miserere, preferably the 1982 recording by the choir of King's College Chapel. That said, the new version performed by The Sixteen is rather fabulous as well.

I prefer Tallis's 'Spem in Alium', performed by the Chapelle du Roi, but Miserere comes a close second - for that type of song...

Ewan Macoll wrote several of the best industrial love songs ever written. This is maybe the best of all, and therefore a contender:

He didnt write that.

I'll read your post properly next time. Yeah Maccoll was a great writer.
