Yes, I loved it too! We watched with Oli (2 and a half), and he was captivated, repeating the bits of dialogue, although he said that the Gruffalo was a bit scary when it appeared and didn't like it at first - he's got the book, but I think it was the mouse eye view angle they used, and the fact that Mummy and Daddy both tend to read the Gruffalo as a bit dim, whereas he was more threatening in the cartoon, at least at first.

It really should come out on DVD, it was brillant. I loved all the Gruffalo shaped bits of tree in the opening credit shots, and the little touches like the waterboatmen getting eaten by the fish, which was then eaten by the stork.

There was an article about it in the Radio Times where the author mentioned that it's been translated into 40 languages, and that for the French version, to keep the rhyme and scansion, instead of 'a slice of bread', the Gruffalo says the mouse would be good on "a bed of artichokes" - I love that too!

Room on the Broom is also brilliant.
Julia Donaldson/Axel Schaeffer...good combination.

That was good that was. I've not read the book yet but my nieces will be getting bought it I reckon.

The credits were quick though. I was trying to have a look at the people involved but couldn't read that fast.

BUMP - Looks like David Tennant is reading the book on Cbeebies within the next 30 minutes - i.e. before bedtime...... 6.50 is story time.............

For those with little ones that is............

I loved it & so did my 4 year old son. He got the book for Christmas along with the Gruffalo's child & Stick Man. He has had the snail & the whale & tiddler for ages. As with all kids, he wants it read over & over but I don't mind as they are really good books.

At least it's a book with variety. When my sister was little, she demanded The Gingerbread Man over and over, and it drove my Mum mad because of the repetition of "run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man" within the story - it was bad enough to read once....

Oli is now old enough to use books as a ruse to try and stay up longer - 3 is the normal bedtime maximum, but then it's "just one more" or even "just a little bit of one"....

It's funny, how you spend your childhood deperately trying to stay up longer and then as a adult, you can't wait to get to bed half the time!
