Yes 2 courses but spread over 2 days so 1k total per day. I left at a fairly busy time, and apart from cars having to wait longer to pull out onto the roads we were on I cannot see that any major inconvenience was caused.

I also think that a large proportion of NIMBYs are retired teachers
This is exactly the kind of dismissive throw away comment that gets everyone going for each other's jugular.

Was a pleasure to see so many taking part last weekend.
We did have an incident, but it was a motorist that caused it - just past the Cuckoo Inn at Hampworth, had to emergency stop my car as a driver was overtaking cyclists on a bend.
My wife swore, then commented, as she was glaring in the side mirror, "That idiot has just overtaken, and is now turning off the road to the golf club - what a twit (rhymed with hat).

May download the route and give it a go one weekend. It passed about a mile away from where I live - (a village called Downton - three pubs but no abbey).

Why? Which one of the two are you?

I am a cyclist and a teacher. A father of three and a canoeist.
So I'm used to getting some bad press.
If its any conciliation teachers are not really allowed to retire any more so your difficulty should diminish over time.

I find this sort of stunt (drawing pins) a bit hypocritical. Being that the person doing it is seemingly protesting about bicycle riding in some way, they don't seem to be as militant against cars that kill around 2000 people in the uk every year......

They don't also care that the drawing pins may cause injury to animals or people, it completely undermines all of their arguments.

With the new forest thing the easiest answer is don't go cycling there. Don't stay in any hotels or b+b's, don't spend money in any of their cafés, restaurants, pubs, garages or bike shops. Let the nimbys win. I bet a lot of them own, run, or work in local businesses and long term it will affect them, not you the cyclist. There are plenty of great places in this country to cycle so f*** 'em I say.
